Alhaji Seidu Agongo, a well-known businessman and philanthropist, has teamed up with a local initiative. They aim to provide food aid to vulnerable residents in Adaboya-Kunkoe, Bongo District.
On Monday, April 28, they distributed 35 bags of maize. The donation reached dozens of women in the farming community.
Around 70 elderly individuals benefited from this effort. Most recipients were widows, single mothers, or those unable to farm due to illness or disability.
The community relies on subsistence agriculture but faces challenges. Erratic rainfall has led to poor yields and increased food insecurity. This intervention aimed to help supplement their dwindling food supplies.
Mrs. Janet Abugre coordinates the annual donation initiative. She stated that Alhaji Agongo’s support expanded their outreach this year.
“What began as support for around 20 individuals now helps about 70,” she said.
Typically, distributions occur in June during planting season. However, this year’s early distribution provided timely relief amid food shortages caused by inconsistent rainfall.
Recipients expressed deep gratitude for the assistance. The donations were given at a neutral location to ensure dignity and reduce stigma.
“We provide food instead of cash for vital nutrition,” Mrs. Abugre explained. Each bag of maize was shared among three beneficiaries for maximum impact.
Alhaji Agongo is known for his philanthropic work across Ghana. His collaboration shows his commitment to uplifting marginalized communities.
While this year's donation brought relief, many still need help. Mrs. Abugre hopes more benefactors will support the initiative in the future.
