A six-year-old boy named Sylvester Owusu is feared drowned. He reportedly fell into the Anikoko River during heavy rain on Saturday, May 18. This incident occurred along the Dunkwa-Aggrey Road in the Central Region.
Family members say Sylvester was returning home from Zongo Market. He had run an errand for his grandmother. While crossing a culvert over the river, he slipped and was swept away by floodwaters.
The heavy rainfall lasted from about 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. It caused widespread flooding in Dunkwa municipality. Many waterways and footpaths became dangerous.
A search operation began at dawn on Sunday. Local volunteers and emergency personnel are involved in the search. However, as of now, no trace of Sylvester has been found.
Local authorities have issued a public advisory. They urge residents to be cautious during and after heavy rain, especially near flood-prone areas.
Search efforts are still ongoing.
