South Tongu MP launches Business and Investment Forum

South Tongu’s economy is changing in the Volta region. Member of Parliament Maxwell Kwame Lukutor leads this transformation.

He launched the first South Tongu Business & Investment Forum at Hlevi, Sogakope. This event aims to drive sustainable development and attract investment.

The forum gathered development partners, private investors, entrepreneurs, and policymakers. It focused on “Harnessing Local and Global Partnerships for Sustainable Development in South Tongu.” The goal is to position the district as an investment hub.

In his keynote speech, Mr. Lukutor emphasized opportunity over charity. He highlighted local support and leadership committed to change.

He urged stakeholders to see tourism as a “goldmine awaiting investment.” He encouraged young people to prepare for a skills-driven economy instead of migration.

The forum's agenda focused on seven key sectors for transformation:

1. Agriculture and Agribusiness: Emphasis on mechanisation, irrigation, and value addition in crops like cassava and maize.

2. Tourism and Hospitality: A call for investment in eco-tourism and hospitality infrastructure.

3. Education and Skills Development: Proposals included expanding technical education and fostering academia-industry partnerships.

4. Industrialisation and Manufacturing: Plans for SME zones, agro-processing facilities, ceramics hubs, and woodwork centers.

5. ICT and the Digital Economy: Urging investments in digital infrastructure to support youth entrepreneurship.

6. Retail and Commerce: Recommendations for modern markets, warehousing solutions, and financial services for SMEs.

7. Youth Development through Sports: A plan for a state-of-the-art sports complex to empower youth.

The forum featured panel discussions, product exhibitions, and investor matchmaking sessions. Young entrepreneurs showcased innovative ideas to attract partnerships.

Guest speaker George Amewu from Ecobank highlighted five pillars essential for business growth: infrastructure development, regulatory reform, access to finance, skills enhancement, and collaboration.

“Business-friendly environments are engineered through foresight,” Mr. Amewu stated.

District Chief Executive Victoria Dzeklo pledged full support for the MP’s vision. She endorsed the sports complex project while reaffirming commitment to peace and inclusive development.

Investor interest has already emerged in agribusiness, tourism, and infrastructure sectors. Traditional leaders committed to partnering with the MP’s office for sustained progress.

The South Tongu Business & Investment Forum 2025 was hailed as a success. It marked the start of district-wide transformation driven by clear leadership.

Mr. Lukutor concluded by stating that real work begins now—turning commitments into contracts and potential into prosperity. South Tongu is open for business with a bright future ahead.
