Stop illegal mining or spend not less than 10 years in jail - Bono Minister warns

The Bono Regional Minister, Joseph Addae Akwaboa, has issued a warning. He told illegal miners to stop their activities. If they do not comply, they could face at least 10 years in jail. The region is committed to cracking down on illegal mining. Any offenders caught will be prosecuted.

Mr. Akwaboa spoke during a meeting at the Banda District Assembly. This was for the confirmation of Mr. Peter Dongi as the Banda District Chief Executive. The 19-member Assembly voted unanimously in favor of Mr. Dongi.

He emphasized the need to protect natural resources for future generations. “Our forefathers safeguarded these resources for us,” he said. He called for everyone’s support in this effort.

Mr. Akwaboa highlighted the severe consequences for those involved in illegal mining. He urged Chiefs, Queens, and community members to help combat this issue.

He also mentioned job opportunities available under President John Dramani Mahama's government. He encouraged young people to take advantage of these opportunities for decent jobs.

Additionally, he noted that illegal mining harms the Bui Generating Station. He asked the DCE to collaborate with Assembly Members on this issue and promote district development.
