Mr. Kofi Boahen Dankwa, convener of the Kwahu Forum for Truth, warns that Ghana's chieftaincy institution is in danger. He believes chaos could ensue if the ongoing "coup d'état" in Kwahu is not stopped.
The forum claims that the destoolment of Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II is illegal. They say installing a rival chief without proper procedures threatens the chieftaincy institution. This situation could lead to unrest if not addressed quickly.
“This customary coup d'état must not stand,” Dankwa stated. He emphasized that it undermines the sanctity of chieftaincy across Ghana. Tolerating such actions would make all traditional areas vulnerable to similar issues.
In a press statement, he urged the state and Kwahu people to defend their heritage. He called for protection of the sacred stool from corruption.
"This illegal occupation is an affront to Daasebre," he said. It also represents an attack on Kwahu tradition itself. No charges have been filed against him before the Judicial Committee of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs.
"There has been no destoolment or hearings," he added. Misinformation campaigns are misleading people about Daasebre’s status as Omanhene. The truth remains: Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II is still recognized as chief.
Dankwa criticized the self-styled new Omanhene for taking over unlawfully. This individual lacks legitimate claim or endorsement and has surrounded himself with armed guards, causing fear and division in Kwahu.
He praised Daasebre for choosing peace over violence despite provocation and lawlessness. “He has trusted the rule of law,” Dankwa noted, opting for judicial action instead of retaliation.
This decision was difficult given the occupation of his palace, which deeply affects him and his people. The community feels anxious and unsettled, but Daasebre remains calm and resolute.
Kofi Boahen Dankwa concluded that patience among Kwahuman reflects strength and commitment to justice, not vengeance—tradition over thuggery.
