A classroom at a school in Kpobikope-Amasaman, Greater Accra Region, was destroyed by fire after students recklessly used firecrackers, igniting nearby flammable materials.
The incident occurred on Thursday, November 29.
Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) swiftly contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading to other classrooms. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
As firecracker usage increases during the festive season, the GNFS has urged the public to follow safety guidelines, avoid flammable materials, and keep fire extinguishers nearby.
Highlighting fire safety, GNFS spokesperson Alex King Nartey encouraged Ghanaians to gift fire extinguishers instead of hampers this Christmas, citing 4,650 fire incidents recorded nationwide from January to September 2024.
