Sung Biela Foundation Ghana celebrates mother’s day with support for 40 single mothers, widows in Bawku

On Sunday, the world celebrated Mother’s Day. In Bawku, Ghana, the Sung Biela Foundation brought joy to 40 single mothers and widows. This event took place in the Kusaug Traditional Area of the Upper East Region.

The foundation is known for its community empowerment programs. They organized this special event to honor and support women raising children alone or who have lost their husbands.

The 40 women came from seven different communities. They received rice, cooking oil, mackerel, clothes, and cash support. This gesture aimed to help them with daily challenges and show that their struggles are recognized.

Many beneficiaries were touched by the support they received. Alimatu Iddrisu, a widow, said: “The gift makes me feel seen. At least today, I know someone remembers me.”

Another widow, Anaba Gladys, expressed her gratitude: “It’s not easy to provide for your children. This support gives me some relief. May God bless the Foundation.”

The women also requested ongoing support through livelihood training and education for their children. They believe such help would create lasting change.

Jacob Ayanaba is the Programme Coordinator of the Sung Biela Foundation Ghana. He spoke at the event about empowering vulnerable women.

“This Mother’s Day, we chose to honor single mothers and widows,” he said. “They are silent heroes who carry heavy responsibilities with little support.”

He thanked supporters and donors for making this work possible. Special thanks went to Mrs. Naa Maamiley Addy for her commitment to helping vulnerable people in communities.

Mr. Ayanaba mentioned that the foundation plans to offer skills training and small business support soon. “We want to equip women to earn income through poultry or soap making,” he added.

Residents in Bawku praised the Foundation for recognizing often-overlooked women during celebrations. One resident said: “In our culture, mothers are the backbone of families.”

The Sung Biela Foundation Ghana seeks partnerships with individuals and organizations to reach more vulnerable groups in Upper East Region.

“Our work is just beginning,” Mr. Ayanaba noted. “With more support, we can touch more lives.”

Sung Biela Foundation Ghana is a community-focused NGO promoting peace, education, and economic empowerment in northern Ghana.
