The Techiman Traditional Council has debunked claims of animosity between the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and the people of Techiman following an alleged attack on his convoy on December 2, 2024.

In a statement, the Council emphasized the strong ties between the Asantehene and the Techimanhene as members of the Oyoko Clan.

The incident, involving unidentified youth hurling stones at Otumfuo’s convoy in Techiman, has sparked nationwide concern.

The convoy was returning to Kumasi after a funeral in Nkoranza.

Reports of gunfire and civilian mistreatment by Otumfuo’s security guards were dismissed by the Council, which attributed the tensions to misinformation on social media.

The Council urged calm, responsible social media use, and a collective focus on fostering unity and respect for traditional authority.
