Tema fire: Chief Fire Officer joins firefighters to extinguish flames

A fire broke out at Flour Mills Ghana Limited in Tema. The incident occurred on Wednesday, May 21. It affected parts of the company's 10-storey building at GAFCO Yard.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded quickly to the fire. Chief Fire Officer Daniella Mawusi Ntow-Sapong was on-site during the operation. She provided leadership and oversight as firefighters worked to extinguish the flames.

One worker suffered smoke inhalation and received medical attention. He was taken to GPHA Clinic and is now stable.

The fire caused significant damage to electrical panels and production machinery. However, emergency personnel saved vital installations like the flour warehouse and office spaces.

CFO Ntow-Sapong praised Flour Mills staff for reporting the fire promptly. Their quick action helped prevent a larger disaster. She urged everyone to report fires immediately for effective responses.

“I commend our firefighters for their courage and professionalism,” she said.

At the scene were other officials, including ACFOII Patrick Sallah and ACFOI Nissau from the Greater Accra Regional Fire Office. The GPHA Fire and Safety Department also contributed significantly to controlling the situation.

An investigation is underway to find out what caused the fire. The blaze affected floors three through ten but was fully extinguished by 12:39 a.m.
