A devastating fire swept through Kantamanto Market in Accra on January 2, 2025, leaving traders in despair as they lost everything.

The fire started in the early morning, quickly spreading through the market, fueled by flammable materials.

Traders like Ama Mensah, a clothing vendor, and Isabella Apoe, a cold store operator, are now counting their losses, with many having invested their life savings into their businesses.

Despite efforts by firefighters, much of the market was destroyed.

Traders are now calling for government assistance to rebuild.

Market Manager Adutwum Atta Manu confirmed the fire was contained, but many vendors, like Silas Oteng-Akenteng, are left with nothing and are turning to scraps to survive, hoping for government support to start anew.
