Two Chinese nationals and 11 Ghanaians arrested for illegal mining in Western Region

Two Chinese nationals, Huan Ciongjian, 38, and Ling Yong, 56, have been handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service. Eleven Ghanaians are facing court charges for illegal mining in the Western Region.

The Chinese suspects were arrested along the Bonsa River. This was part of an operation by the Western Central Regional Police Command. The goal is to combat illegal mining activities. They are currently in custody for further investigation and possible repatriation.

Seven Ghanaians have been arraigned before the Special Court for Illegal Mining in Sekondi. Their names include Ibrahim Dauda, Michael Tettey Komlorm, Douglas Ayambila, and others. They face charges of conspiracy and mining without a valid license. The court has remanded them into custody until April 17, 2025.

Four more suspects are expected to appear in court for similar offenses. This operation is part of a larger initiative by police. It aims to reduce environmental damage from illegal mining practices.
