Victims of Buduburam rock blast disaster decry ‘paltry’ amounts paid as compensation

Victims of the October 14 rock blast disaster at Buduburam have expressed dissatisfaction over compensation payouts from the government.

Disbursement began on November 28, with NADMO’s Gomoa East branch allocating GHC1,448,000 for the victims.

Several recipients found their packages insufficient.

Vida Ampah, a fishmonger, received GHC4,000 instead of the GHC12,700 she claims was agreed upon, despite losing 15 baskets of fried fish valued at GHC1,500 each.

Similarly, Mustapha Buabeng, owner of MS Buabeng Ventures, described his compensation as inadequate to cover his business losses.

However, Gomoa East Chief Executive Solomon Darko Kwaam defended the payouts, insisting the amounts were fair and in some cases doubled the assessed damages.

He assured victims of full compensation for all disaster-related losses caused by contractor Nag Fairmount’s activities.
