Volta Council of State member donates relief items to tidal wave victims in southern Volta

Gabriel Kwamigah Atokple, known as Chief Tanko, represents the Volta Region on the Council of State. He has offered support to victims of a recent tidal wave disaster. This disaster affected several coastal communities in southern Volta.

On May 20, Chief Tanko held a brief ceremony at his Weta residence. He donated relief items such as rice, sugar, spaghetti, and cooking oil. These items aim to help displaced families in Agavedzi, Amutinu, Salakope, and nearby areas.

Key disaster management officials received the donations on behalf of the victims. They included Dodzi Kofi Aidam from NADMO and Vacus Dogbe, also from NADMO. Kumawu Sylvester, an Assembly Member for Amutinu/Salakope, was also present.

These officials were recognized for their roles in local disaster response efforts. In a Facebook post, Mr. Atokple expressed his honor in donating supplies to support the victims. He highlighted that many families lost homes and livelihoods due to sea erosion.

He praised NADMO and local leaders for ensuring aid reaches those most affected. “In times of crisis,” he said, “community support is our strongest asset.”

He reassured residents that they are not alone during this difficult time. Together, he believes they can rebuild and recover from these challenges.

The tidal wave has displaced hundreds in southern Volta. There are urgent calls for long-term coastal protection measures among stakeholders and affected communities.
