Volta region leaders strategise to boost investment, infrastructure, and tourism

A high-level meeting in Accra focused on accelerating development in the Volta Region. Gabriel Kwamigah Tanko Atokple, a representative of the Volta Council of State, led discussions with regional leaders.

The delegation included Volta Regional Minister James Gunu, NDC Chairman Mawutor Agbavitor, and Acting General Secretary Bright Kwashie Ege. They congratulated Mr. Atokple on his election and shared a vision for transforming the region into an economic hub.

The discussions aimed to attract investors to Volta. Leaders explored ways to improve infrastructure, education, healthcare, and tourism potential for economic growth.

Mr. Atokple emphasized the need for urgent action. He stated that the region must move beyond talk and unlock investment opportunities.

"We must aggressively market Volta as an investment-friendly region," he said. He noted that location, resources, and human capital provide a competitive edge but require deliberate efforts to support businesses.

The meeting also addressed infrastructural needs like roads, energy supply, and digital connectivity. Leaders agreed that modern infrastructure is essential for attracting investors and ensuring efficient business operations.

Additionally, they discussed strengthening educational institutions and healthcare services. This will equip future generations with necessary skills while promoting a healthier population.

Mr. Gunu reaffirmed the government's commitment to these goals. He stated that the Regional Coordinating Council would collaborate with Mr. Atokple to drive initiatives benefiting the people.

"We are determined to move beyond promises," he assured attendees. "With strong partnerships and leadership, Volta will progress."

Another key topic was Volta's tourism sector potential. The region boasts stunning landscapes, rich culture, and historical sites that could make it a top tourist destination in Ghana.

Leaders discussed strategies to promote unique attractions and develop necessary infrastructure for tourism growth.

Mr. Agbavitor and Mr. Ege pledged their support for policies enhancing tourism investment and creating jobs for youth.

As the meeting concluded, Mr. Atokple committed to advocating for national policies that bring real change to Volta. He urged all stakeholders—government officials, private sector members, traditional leaders—to unite in realizing the Volta Rising Agenda.

"The future of our region depends on today's choices," he declared. "We must work together to build a self-sustaining and prosperous Volta."
