We drink with animals - Ofosu residents seek more help despite getting 1st borehole from AgroCrown

In the farming community of Ofosu, located in the Oti Region, clean drinking water is a major challenge. Recently, AgroCrown West Africa Company Limited built a mechanised borehole. However, many residents feel it only helps a few.

Most people still rely on a muddy stream shared with livestock. This water is used for cooking, drinking, and bathing.

Kosi Wotordzro, a 62-year-old farmer, expressed frustration. “We appreciate the borehole,” he said. “But it serves only one part of the community. The rest of us still drink with animals.”

Residents face other hardships as well. They deal with poor roads and lack of electricity. Access to healthcare is also limited.

Expectant mothers travel hours on motorbikes to reach clinics. Schoolchildren walk long distances barefoot to attend classes. During rainy seasons, they can be cut off from nearby towns.

Madam Dorcas Aliglo voiced her concerns: “We are not asking for much—just water, roads, and a small clinic.” She questioned if they are not part of Ghana too.

Community leaders express gratitude for AgroCrown's help but say more support is needed. Chief Tetteh Komla made an urgent appeal: “This is an SOS to the government and NGOs. Help us.”

Many continue to rely on contaminated water sources daily. The people of Ofosu hope their pleas will be heard: “See us. Hear us. Help us.”
