Months after a fire devastated Borla Down, victims still await help.
The fire occurred on November 24, 2025. It destroyed many wooden structures used as homes and businesses.
In contrast, residents of Adum PZ and Kantamanto received quick support. However, Borla Down residents feel abandoned.
"The fire took everything from me—my shop, savings, and home," said Abdul Aziz. He noted that no one has checked on their well-being.
Many victims now live in makeshift shelters made from salvaged materials. Children sleep on bare floors, while families share small rooms under tarpaulins.
Community members say their pleas to authorities have gone unanswered. "It’s like we don’t matter," Johnson said. His motorbike was also burned in the fire.
Victims report being homeless has crippled livelihoods and disrupted children's education. They are calling for help from government agencies and organizations.
"We’re not asking for much—just support to rebuild," Abdul Aziz added. "Our lives are at a standstill."
The JoyNews feature series Breaking the Fire Cycle highlights these issues. It focuses on recurring fire disasters and uneven responses across Ghana.
As rebuilding efforts stall, Borla Down residents urge stakeholders not to forget them.
