Yendi Solar Project: Bui Power Authority starts disbursement of compensation to landowners

The Bui Power Authority (BPA) has begun compensating 34 landowners. These individuals include farmers and tree owners affected by the Yendi Solar Power project.

So far, 16 people have received their payments. The total compensation is about GH₵ 1,518,158.15.

Wumbila Salifu, the Director of Natural Resources at BPA, spoke to the media. He represented the acting Chief Executive Officer during this announcement. An evaluator assessed crops, economic trees, and properties in the project's right of way.

Mr. Wumbila confirmed that this assessment was completed successfully. This allowed for the disbursement of compensation payments.

He explained that compensation will be paid in phases. Payments for crops and economic trees have already been made. The second phase will focus on buildings and properties within the right of way.

"Crops and economic trees have been paid for," he said. "Next, we will pay those with building plots and houses."

Compensation amounts vary from GH₵6,000 to GH₵481,000. This depends on the value of each property assessed.

Mr. Wumbila noted that those with buildings receive more than those with bare land. "Someone with a building gets more money than someone with undeveloped land," he explained.

Some affected individuals raised concerns about their compensation. Mr. Wumbila assured them that BPA would engage with local chiefs to address these issues.

Edward Okantah is the Head of Works at Yendi Municipal Assembly. He urged residents to cooperate with BPA for the solar facility's protection and longevity.

He also asked them to respect the facility's boundaries now that compensation has been paid.

Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for their compensation and appreciated BPA's efforts.
