The Chief Imam of the Bole Traditional Area, Alhaji Mohammed Iddrisu, has imposed a ban on extravagant Islamic weddings, effective March 5, 2025.
This decision follows consultations with Islamic clerics to curb rising wedding costs and promote adherence to traditional Islamic values.
The ban specifically prohibits lavish receptions, multiple outfit changes, male beauticians styling brides, and excessive celebrations like wedding "jams."
The Chief Imam emphasized that costly weddings have become a barrier for many young people seeking marriage.
Copies of the directive have been sent to key authorities, including the Bolewura, the police, and local media.
He urged community members to comply, ensuring a return to modest and affordable marriage ceremonies.
