The Methodist Church Ghana has officially launched its 190th anniversary celebrations, coinciding with Covenant Sunday, a significant occasion in Methodist tradition when congregants make a covenant with God for the new year.
Founded in 1835 through missionary efforts, the church has faced numerous challenges, including the loss of 11 missionaries out of 21 in its first eight years.
The Presiding Bishop, Most Rev. Professor Johnson K. Asamoah-Gyadu, led the launch at Bethany Methodist Church, Dzowulu, where he highlighted the church's motto, "Thy Kingdom Come," and the anniversary's focus on worship, prayer, and outreach. He also paid tribute to the foreign missionaries and pioneers who helped establish the church in Ghana.
The church plans to expand its influence in education, healthcare, and other public sectors, while honoring its legacy through various anniversary activities, including a school for youth, a musical concert, and a thanksgiving service in August.
