'It was right to sack Prosper Ogum' - Opoku Nti

Former Asante Kotoko player and board chairman, Samuel Opoku Nti, known as 'Lord Zico', praised the IMC. He supports their decision to sack coach Prosper Narteh Ogum. He is hopeful that the team will win the league.

Ogum was dismissed almost a week ago due to poor results. His departure hurt the club's chances of winning the league. Abdul Karim Zito, another former player, has taken over as coach.

Zito started his tenure with a narrow 1-0 win over Aduana Stars. This match took place at Baba Yara Stadium. The victory keeps Kotoko in fourth place with 50 points, just three points from first place.

In an interview on Akoma FM, Opoku Nti shared his thoughts on the coaching change. He scored the winning goal for Kotoko in their last CAF Champions League title in 1983. He agreed with the decision to replace Ogum and believes Zito can lead them to victory.

"I believe the timing was right," he said. "We had six matches left when Zito arrived; now it’s five." He noted that something wasn't working with Kotoko's previous performance. "It’s better to sacrifice one individual than risk losing the entire team."

Opoku Nti mentioned that coaching changes happen even in Europe. He felt confident that a new coach could help Kotoko win consecutive matches.

Asante Kotoko will face their rivals Hearts of Oak this week in their second Super-Clash of the season.
