Black Stars head coach Otto Addo knows about the rivalry with Nigeria. He is treating tomorrow's game very seriously. The team wants to win and make Ghanaians proud in the Unity Cup tournament.
Despite missing many key players, Addo has selected 23 players for the tournament. This was officially announced over the weekend. The four-time African champions hope to have a strong squad for the game. Unfortunately, they will miss players like Kudus Mohammed, Thomas Partey, and Kamaldeen Sulemana due to injuries. Players from Turkish leagues and Major League Soccer are also unavailable since their leagues are still ongoing.
The team opened camp last Monday with some new faces. They also included players who have been away from the senior national team for a while. They aim to prepare adequately for the upcoming match.
Baba Rahman from PAOK FC has returned after over a year away. Italian-based striker Felix Afena-Gyan is back after almost three years out. Majeed Ashimeru, Salis Abdul Samed, and others are also available for selection.
Ahead of the game, Addo seeks revenge for their last match against Nigeria. He wants to claim bragging rights for their supporters due to the intense rivalry between both nations. "We lost the last friendly, so we want to beat them this time," he said.
He added that while it’s a friendly match, it feels important. "We want our people to be proud of us," he stated. "It’s always about who has a better team." Although it will be tough, they hope to win.
Ghana will start their Unity Cup campaign on Wednesday against Nigeria. Their second game will be on May 31 against either Jamaica or Trinidad and Tobago.
