100m mixed sprint relay coming to LA28

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has added a mixed 4x100-metre relay. This event will be part of the athletics programme for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

This change promotes gender inclusivity and innovation in track and field. Teams will consist of two women and two men. The current running order is woman-woman-man-man, but this may change.

The mixed 4x100m relay will debut at the 2025 World Athletics Relays in Guangzhou. It will also appear at the inaugural Ultimate Championships in Budapest. These events will test the format of the relay.

World Athletics will recognize official records for this event starting January 2026. The addition of this relay supports the IOC's goal to modernize the Olympic Games. It also aims to promote gender equality in sports.
