17-year-old Ghanaian referee Angelous Akurugu makes mark in CAF African Schools Football Championshi

Ghana's Adongo Angelous Akurugu shone in the CAF African Schools Football Championship final. The match took place at the University of Ghana Stadium.

Akurugu, 17, is a student at Navrongo Senior High School. He maintained full control during the game. His professionalism and fairness were clear throughout.

The match went smoothly, with no major questionable decisions. It ended in penalty shootouts, where Tanzania won and retained the trophy against Senegal.

Akurugu is a rising star in the GFA's Catch Them Young Refereeing Policy. He gained fame through quality guidance from the Referees Department.

Since being discovered, he has officiated various juvenile competitions. These include the KGL U-17 tournament and Division One League Super Cup matches.

He also officiated at the WAFU Africa Schools Championship Qualifiers in Niger last year. Additionally, he was involved in a quarterfinal match of the 2024/25 MTN FA Cup in Kumasi.
