2024/25 Ghana Premier League Match Report: Hearts of Oak outclass Accra Lions to secure back-to-back

Hearts of Oak had a strong performance at the Accra Sports Stadium. They won 3-1 against city rivals Accra Lions on Sunday.

Goals came from Enoch Asubonteng, Kofi Asmah, and Hamza Issah. This victory marks consecutive league wins for Hearts as they aim to finish strong.

The match started lively, with Hearts taking control early. In the 11th minute, Asubonteng cut inside and scored a low shot past goalkeeper Daniel Afful.

Accra Lions responded with some possession and attacks. Yao Sokpoli and Lawrence Setordjie both tested Hearts' goalkeeper Benjamin Asare. Setordjie equalized midway through the second half with a stunning long-range strike but got injured just after scoring.

Despite their momentum, Accra Lions struggled to clear their lines late in the game. Hamza Issah took advantage of this mistake to assist Kofi Asmah, who restored Hearts’ lead.

In the final minutes, Issah scored himself. He finished a quick counterattack with a delicate lob over Afful to secure a 3-1 win for Hearts.

This result strengthens Hearts of Oak’s position in the top half of the table. Meanwhile, Accra Lions will regret their missed chances as they fight for a respectable finish.
