The Black Satellites of Ghana have been eliminated from the TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations. They also missed out on qualifying for the FIFA World Cup. This happened after a loss to Egypt last night.
Ghana had a strong start in the tournament, finishing as Group B winners. However, they lost 5-4 in penalty shootouts to Egypt after a 2-2 draw in extra time.
Egypt took an early lead with two goals from Momen Sherif within 30 minutes. Ghana fought back with goals from Abdul Aziz Issah and Abdul Hakim Sulemana. Despite their efforts, they could not secure a win.
After the match, Hakim Sulemana expressed his disappointment. He was named man of the match for the second time in this competition. He said it was hard to accept this defeat despite their best efforts.
Sulemana stated, “We came all out. It’s always hard when you are down 2-0.” He added that they aimed to qualify for the World Cup and win the trophy but were unhappy with their quarterfinal exit.
Coach Desmond Ofei and his team are expected to return home today. Some players may join their clubs soon after arriving back in Ghana.
