Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has a clear priority. He wants to "build a solid team." This focus comes as Ghana prepares for the Unity Cup in London.
Addo spoke to GhanaFA.org about his strategy. He plans to include many young and lesser-known players. This approach aims to create a cohesive team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
“We’re looking beyond individuals,” Addo said. “We want a strong team.” He believes giving young players a chance is essential. They can prove themselves and become key parts of the future squad.
“Team building takes time,” he explained. It doesn’t happen overnight. The Unity Cup provides an opportunity for young talents to showcase their skills. Creating competition within the team is vital.
The 49-year-old coach emphasized the importance of the Unity Cup. It helps prepare his squad for upcoming challenges, especially against Chad and Mali in September. “These matches are crucial, just like the World Cup qualifiers,” he noted.
Addo sees this as an ideal time to evaluate players closely. The Unity Cup also allows several returning players to rejoin the squad. “We’re excited to welcome back those who have been absent,” he said, highlighting chemistry building with new teammates.
