Aarhus GF release Accra-born German midfielder Michael Akoto

Aarhus GF has ended its contract with Michael Akoto. The Ghanaian centre-back spent two seasons with the team. His contract was set to expire this summer.

Akoto joined Aarhus in 2023 on a free transfer from Dynamo Dresden. He played 57 games and scored two goals in Germany's 2nd and 3rd Bundesliga.

He made his AGF debut on August 6, 2023, against Hvidovre IF. However, his time at AGF had ups and downs. Akoto only played 26 matches for the club.

Sporting director Carsten V. Jensen commented on Akoto's departure. He noted that things did not go as hoped for either party. Despite challenges, Akoto showed quality as a defender.

Jensen praised Akoto’s spirit, work ethic, and professionalism. He believes Akoto will make an impact elsewhere. The club thanked him for his contributions before parting ways.

Injuries limited Akoto's appearances during his two seasons at Aarhus GF. He is still eligible to play for the Ghana Senior Men's National Team but has not yet been capped internationally.
