Black Stars forward Inaki Williams named new Athletic Club Captain

Inaki Kwaku Williams is the new captain of Athletic Club. He will lead the team for the 2025/26 season.

Inaki has played for the Basque club since 2014. He has made over 300 appearances and has been influential.

He takes over as captain after Oscar de Marcos's departure. De Marcos leaves Estadio San Mames after nearly sixteen years.

As captain, Inaki hopes for a better European campaign next season. The club qualified for the UEFA Champions League after finishing fourth in La Liga.

Recently, Inaki won the Spanish La Liga African Player of the Year Award. This is his second consecutive win, beating Pape Gueye and Enzo Boyomo.

In the 2024/25 season, he scored six goals and provided eight assists in 35 league games.

Inaki was not included in Ghana's squad for the 2025 Unity Cup in London. Coach Otto Addo wants to assess new players during this tournament.
