Coventry City forward Brandon Thomas-Asante is thrilled to score his debut goal for Ghana. However, he found the defeat to Nigeria very frustrating.
The 26-year-old scored against Nigeria last Wednesday night. This was during the 2025 Unity Cup semi-final. Thomas-Asante made his debut for Ghana in June 2024. He played in a World Cup Qualifier against the Central African Republic.
In the match at Gtech Community Stadium, he scored a consolation goal. Ghana lost 2-1 to Nigeria's Super Eagles. Thomas-Asante came off the bench after halftime, replacing Kwame Opoku.
Opoku had started alongside Christopher Bonsu Baah and Jordan Ayew. Thomas-Asante tapped in a close-range shot in the 70th minute. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to change the outcome of the game.
Afterward, he expressed excitement about scoring for Ghana. He hopes to score more goals in future matches. “It was a bit frustrating,” he said about the loss. “We know we can win this game.”
He added that playing in front of fans was amazing. “Half were for us and half against us,” he noted, appreciating their support.
Thomas-Asante had an impressive season with Frank Lampard at Coventry City. He helped them qualify for the Championship playoffs but they lost to Sunderland. In 38 Championship games, he scored four goals and provided three assists.
