Caleb Yerenkyi impresses on Ghana debut despite defeat to Nigeria

FC Nordsjaelland's young midfielder Caleb Yerenkyi shone in his debut for the Black Stars. He played against Nigeria on Wednesday night.

Yerenkyi was moved to right back after halftime. He replaced Kamaradini Mamdu from Medeama SC. Despite being new to the position, he excelled in the second half.

The 19-year-old made timely interceptions and tracked runs well. His efforts frustrated Nigeria's defense throughout the game.

Yerenkyi's precise passing helped Ghana build up play smoothly. This contributed to their dominance in parts of the second half.

His calmness under pressure improved the team's performance after halftime. This led to a consolation goal by Brandon Thomas-Asante in the 70th minute.

So far, Yerenkyi has scored two goals and provided two assists in 17 matches for FC Nordsjaelland. He joined them from the Right to Dream Academy in 2024. Many see him as a rising star in European football.
