FIFA to debut body cameras for referee

FIFA announced its team of 117 match officials on Monday. This is for the inaugural Club World Cup. The tournament will take place in the United States.

The FIFA Referees Committee selected officials from 41 member associations. This includes 35 referees, 58 assistant referees, and 24 video match officials. The event is scheduled from June 14 to July 13.

FIFA stated that referees will wear body cameras during matches. These cameras will give fans new views of on-field action. Additionally, stricter rules will apply to goalkeepers regarding time-wasting.

Goalkeepers who hold the ball for more than eight seconds will face penalties. Opponents will be awarded corner kicks instead of indirect free kicks.

Pierluigi Collina, chairman of the FIFA Referees Committee, commented on this initiative. He believes it offers viewers a unique experience with new perspectives and angles never seen before.
