The U20 national team, the Black Satellites, faced heartbreak in Egypt. Ghana exited the U20 Africa Cup of Nations after a penalty shootout loss to the hosts. They had come back from two goals down and played with ten men to reach extra time. This defeat means Ghana will not qualify for the 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile.
Despite this disappointment, four players shone during the tournament.
Aziz Issah
The Barca Athletic winger was a standout player for Ghana. He scored a stunning goal that started the comeback against Egypt. His long-range strike beat the young Pharaoh's goalkeeper. Issah also earned Man of the Match honors against the Central African Republic.
AbdulHakim Sulemana
Sulemana was arguably Ghana's best player at the tournament. The younger brother of Southampton star Kamaldeen won two Man of the Match awards in Egypt. His composed penalty forced extra time against Egypt. Despite starting two matches on the bench, he made a significant impact.
Lord Afrifa
Afrifa was an unsung hero for Ghana. The Sturm Graz midfielder dictated play and drove the team forward. He played a key role in Ghana's comeback against Egypt by assisting Issah’s goal.
Dacosta Antwi
Antwi missed a crucial penalty but was solid throughout the tournament. He helped Ghana concede just one goal in group stages. His performances earned him a spot in the best eleven of that stage. It may not be long before foreign teams come calling for him.
