Maxwell Konadu, a former assistant coach for the Black Stars, shared his views on the Ghana Premier League. He believes its decline is due to players leaving soon after being discovered.
Konadu recently coached Black Leopards in South Africa. He noted that the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) remains competitive. This is because players are motivated to stay by better wages.
He explained, "In Ghana, once you score a few goals, you're gone." In contrast, South African players enjoy good pay and are not rushing to Europe. They feel relaxed and satisfied with their situation at home.
At 52 years old, Konadu emphasized the importance of infrastructure. While moving abroad can improve players' finances, it harms the quality of the domestic league.
He stated that the South African league is very competitive. Clubs like Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs regularly compete in the CAF Champions League.
"Good infrastructure leads to beautiful football," he said. It significantly benefits their league's quality. He concluded that without investment from companies, Ghana will struggle against countries like South Africa.
