Kotoko coach admits Kwame Opoku’s absence was felt in scoreless tie against Gold Stars

Asante Kotoko's head coach, Abdul Karim Zito, spoke about his team's recent match. They played Bibiani Gold Stars on Sunday, May 25, 2025. The game ended in a goalless draw.

Zito noted that missing striker Kwame Opoku was a significant setback. This loss prevented them from closing the gap on league leaders Nations FC. The match took place at Dun's Park in Bibiani.

Opoku could not play because he was called up by Black Stars coach Otto Addo. He is preparing for the upcoming Unity Cup in London. Since joining Kotoko in December 2024, Opoku has scored nine goals this season.

In a post-match interview, Zito emphasized Opoku’s importance to the team. "I missed one of my best players," he said. "Not having him affected me."

He added, "I wish he was here with us." However, he understands that players must progress in their careers. "If the Black Stars called me, I would go too," Zito stated.

Currently, Kotoko sits third in the league standings with 55 points and two games left to play. Their next match is against Medeama in Matchweek 33. They will finish the season against Vision FC at Nii Adjei Kraku Sports Stadium.
