Veteran coach Abdul Karim Zito has downplayed his role at Asante Kotoko. He emphasized that the club's main goal is to win the 2024-2025 Ghana Premier League and MTN FA Cup titles.
Zito spoke to the media after Kotoko’s 4-1 victory over Dreams FC. This win extended Kotoko’s unbeaten streak to four matches since he took over. He replaced Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, who was dismissed earlier this season.
Zito originally joined Kotoko as a technical director. He took on head coaching duties after Ogum's exit. However, he believes his position is less important than the club's title ambitions.
“I never knew I was coming to Kotoko,” Zito said. “I was lying down when I got a call for the technical director job, not coaching.”
He added, “Unfortunately, my own boy left, so I had to take over until the season ends.” Zito requested to be left in peace to work through the league and FA Cup final.
“I prefer winning a double,” he stated. “For the position, it doesn’t matter. What matters now is leading the team and doing better.”
