Legon Cities have been relegated to the Division One League. They lost 4-1 to Nations FC on Monday. The match took place at the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon.
Kelvin Ampoful scored two goals for Nations FC. Emmanuel Annor and Sadiq Alhassan also scored. This win puts Nations FC at the top of the league with three matches left.
Legon Cities finished the season with just 25 points from 31 games. Their relegation is now mathematically confirmed. The club struggled throughout the season and could not compete with title contenders.
Legon Cities were previously known as WA All Stars. They won the Ghana Premier League in 2016. The club was founded in January 2006 by Kwesi Nyantakyi in Wa.
In December 2019, they were sold and rebranded as Legon Cities FC. Despite signing high-profile players like Asamoah Gyan, their performance declined this season, leading to relegation.
