Liverpool,Van Dijk make progress in new contract negotiations

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk is close to signing a new contract.

“There is progress, yeah,” Van Dijk said on Monday. “These are internal discussions and we’ll see.”

Van Dijk will turn 34 in July. He is out of contract along with Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

All three players are key to Liverpool's success this season. They look set to win the league title.

While Alexander-Arnold may join Real Madrid, Van Dijk and Salah are likely to stay. They both joined Liverpool in the 2017-18 season.

Together, they won the Champions League in 2019 and the Premier League in 2020.
