Otto Addo backs GPL talent after handing Unity Cup call-ups to four local players

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has praised the Ghana Premier League (GPL). He believes the league produces players who can perform at high levels.

Ahead of Ghana’s Unity Cup opener against Nigeria, Addo explained his squad choices. Four home-based players were included in the team. They are goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, Razak Simpson, Kwame Opoku, and Kamaridini Mamudu.

Addo noted that local players have consistently been part of recent squads. “I rate the league very high,” he said. “Otherwise, we wouldn’t have players who can compete.”

He looks forward to seeing these players on a big stage. The GPL showcases young talents and players who can match foreign counterparts.

Ghana will face Nigeria in the Unity Cup semifinal on May 28. They may play either Jamaica or Trinidad and Tobago next Saturday.
