Top goalkeepers who play for ‘smaller’ teams are usually overlooked by national team handlers – Coach Seth Osei laments

Bechem United's assistant coach, Seth Osei, has expressed concerns. He believes goalkeepers from smaller clubs face unfair treatment during national team selections.

Osei argues that talented goalkeepers in the Ghana Premier League are often ignored. National team coaches tend to favor players from larger clubs instead. He insists this practice needs to change.

Last Sunday, after Bechem United's match against FC Samartex, he spoke out. Goalkeeper Emmanuel Anning performed well despite the team's 2-1 loss. Osei urged coaches to consider all good players for selection.

“Keepers from smaller teams are usually overlooked, but that’s not right,” he said. He believes even lower division players deserve a chance if they are skilled.

This discussion comes as the Black Stars prepare for upcoming matches. They will compete in the Unity Cup against Nigeria, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago later this month. Coach Otto Addo is set to announce his squad next week and may include some local players.
