Former Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Osei Boateng says Ghana has not learned from the May 9 stadium disaster. This tragedy claimed 126 lives in 2001.
On the anniversary of the disaster, Boateng expressed his disappointment. He noted ongoing issues with poor officiating and crowd violence at local matches.
He stated, “The lessons we need to learn are crucial, but we haven’t learned anything.” He highlighted that similar problems still occur at venues like Vision FC and Nsoatreman's stadium.
Boateng criticized the referees, saying they have not improved their performance. He warned that without changes in attitudes from referees and supporters, nothing will improve.
The May 9 disaster occurred during a league match between Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko at the Accra Sports Stadium.
