Prof. Henry Kwasi Prempeh, the Executive Director of the Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), has characterized the present New Patriotic Party (NPP) as a "neo-NPP," distinct from its earlier form.
Taking to social media, he stated that the original NPP, known for defeating Jerry John Rawlings' NDC in 2000 under John Agyekum Kufuor's leadership, differs significantly from today’s version.
“The NPP that first entered Parliament in 1997 and defeated Rawlings’ NDC in 2000 is not the same as the neo-NPP crushed by the NDC in 2024. Take note,” Prof. Prempeh remarked.
The NPP’s defeat in the 2024 elections is widely viewed as a response to Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s governance, prompting calls for the party to rebuild and redefine its political strategy.
