The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has airlifted 700 troops to Kumasi to bolster security ahead of the December 7 general elections.

Personnel from the Army, Navy, and Air Force were deployed early on December 5 as part of a nationwide effort to ensure peaceful voting. Kumasi, a key electoral stronghold, has been identified as a potential hotspot for election-related violence.

Brigadier General Michael Opoku, General Officer Commanding (GOC) Central Command, oversees operations in Kumasi. While GAF assures neutrality and commitment to democracy, concerns linger over allegations of targeted deployments to opposition strongholds.

The National Elections Security Task Force, led by IGP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has urged citizens to cooperate with security forces and maintain peace.

Emergency numbers have been issued to report misconduct, and GAF emphasized the ban on soldiers at polling stations to prevent intimidation.
