Professor Stephen Adei, former Rector of GIMPA, attributes the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the 2024 elections to voter apathy rather than a significant gain by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Speaking on TV3, he observed that President-elect John Mahama secured only 200,000 more votes than in 2020, indicating limited growth in NDC support.
Prof. Adei stated that the NPP’s loss was largely due to dissatisfaction among its own members, who felt ignored on critical economic concerns.
He remarked, “Much of the loss was because NPP members said enough is enough.”
This trend, he noted, reflects a historical pattern in Ghana where ruling governments often lose elections due to internal and public discontent rather than opposition strength.
