Abdulai Abu Baba Abubakar Sadiq of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been declared Member of Parliament-elect for Okaikwei Central after defeating incumbent Patrick Yaw Boamah of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in a tightly contested race.
Baba Sadiq won with 15,383 votes, narrowly beating Boamah, who garnered 14,949 votes.
Initially, early results favored Boamah, but protests by the NDC led the Electoral Commission (EC) to review the figures. The EC identified anomalies in 31 polling stations and consulted before confirming Baba Sadiq's victory.
Collation delays and disputes marred the process, particularly at the Ansurudeen Islamic School polling station, where tensions escalated into chaos.
Despite the challenges, Baba Sadiq's win is a significant gain for the NDC in the constituency.
