Bawku crisis: ‘Merchants of conflict are exploiting Ghana’s fractured democracy’ – Martin Amidu

Martin Amidu Martin Amidu

Former Attorney General Martin Amidu has condemned the political elite for exploiting conflicts like the Bawku crisis to enrich themselves and gain electoral advantage, calling them "merchants of conflict."

In an article, Amidu criticized the government for failing to provide security in conflict zones, including Bawku, where citizens continue to suffer without clear information on casualties.

He accused the ruling party of prioritizing political gains over the safety of its people.

Amidu also highlighted the worsening situation in Bawku, where curfews and distrust have led to a humanitarian crisis, with security forces allegedly exploiting the situation. He warned that partisan manipulation even extends to the security forces, damaging public trust.

Amidu called on Ghanaians to hold leaders accountable for human security as they prepare to vote in December, stressing that true development is measured by the protection of citizens.
