Bawumia remains a better candidate for Ghana, but I wish Mahama well – Kofi Bentil

IMANI Africa Vice President Kofi Bentil has reaffirmed his belief that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the outgoing Vice President and NPP flagbearer, was a better choice for Ghana than former President John Mahama.

Speaking on Joy News’ Newsfile, Bentil acknowledged Mahama’s victory in the 2024 general election as fair but maintained his preference for Bawumia, citing research conducted by IMANI in February 2024.

Bentil argued that voter anger over national issues, rather than candidate quality, swayed the election. He urged Ghanaians to focus on candidates’ competence rather than emotions.

However, NDC MP Kofi Adams disagreed, accusing Bentil of overlooking critical issues like economic mismanagement and governmental arrogance.

Some NPP members claim their loss stemmed from voter apathy, punishing Bawumia for faults beyond his control.
