Former Attorney General Martin Amidu has strongly criticized President Nana Akufo-Addo’s leadership, accusing him of undermining Ghana’s democracy to influence the December 7 elections.
Quoting Galatians 6:7, Amidu warned of the repercussions of abusing power, lamenting his past support for Akufo-Addo.
Amidu alleged that the President has compromised institutions like the Electoral Commission (EC) to favor Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s succession. He accused Akufo-Addo of appointing loyalists to key positions as part of a long-term strategy to interfere in elections.
He criticized civil society and media for delayed reactions to what he described as eroding democratic safeguards.
Amidu highlighted concerns like restricted media accreditation and potential internet shutdowns, calling for urgent action to protect the 1992 Constitution and ensure credible elections.
