A coalition of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) has criticized Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC) for denying them accreditation to observe the December 7 elections, calling it a threat to democracy.
The CSOs, including CENCOR, HSRC, Jatikay Centre, and others, accused EC Chair Jean Mensa of undermining transparency and accountability.
They questioned the EC’s motives, citing the vital role of independent election monitoring in safeguarding democratic integrity.
The coalition highlighted risks such as eroding public trust, increased potential for violence, and damage to Ghana’s international reputation.
They demanded the EC rescind its decision, provide justification, and engage stakeholders to restore trust.
Calling on citizens and leaders to join their advocacy, the CSOs reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring the elections reflect the will of the people.
