Closure of Land Borders: Days when foreigners come in to vote long gone – Kpebu

Martin Kpebu Martin Kpebu

Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has criticized the decision to close Ghana’s land borders ahead of elections, calling it outdated.

Speaking on the matter, Kpebu argued that Ghana’s democracy has advanced, rendering concerns about foreigners crossing borders to vote irrelevant. He highlighted the presence of political party representatives and robust security at polling stations, which ensure only eligible voters participate.

“We’ve progressed from the days when foreigners could infiltrate elections. With NPP and other party reps at polling stations and enhanced vigilance, the justification for border closures no longer holds,” Kpebu stated.

He urged authorities to reassess such measures, suggesting they reflect a bygone era rather than the current state of Ghana’s electoral process.
