The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that all votes cast for the late Akua Donkor in the December 7 presidential election will be deemed rejected.
In a press release dated November 22, 2024, Deputy Chairman of Operations, Samuel Tettey, stated that despite her image and the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) logo appearing on the ballot, votes for Akua Donkor will not be counted as valid.
The EC informed its staff and representatives of all presidential candidates about the decision.
Akua Donkor, the GFP Presidential Candidate, passed away on October 28 at Ridge Hospital after a short illness.
Attempts to replace her with her running mate, Kwabena Agyekum Appiah-Kubi, were unsuccessful due to nomination irregularities, as noted by EC Chairperson Jean Mensa.
This clarification aims to ensure transparency and avoid voter confusion during the election.
